What inspired your career journey?

I’ve been working in the creative industries for many years and always in the background was illustrating and drawing for my own pleasure. Eventually I came to the realisation that I wanted to do this full time and use the skills I’d learnt over the years combined with my own abilities as an artist and designer to go it alone and start a business as a graphic designer and illustrator. So I started getting my stuff online and over time interest has increased to the point where it was right to get focused and start HOUSE OF DB.

What are your trend predictions for 2016?

I can see design having an 80s influence with bright colours and layouts coming back into fashion. For the last year or so typography has taken on a more handwritten, script direction but I think this will also start to be more structured and well known fonts like Helvetica will start showing up a lot more. Where we’ve seen a lot of companies go for flat, mute colours I think this naturally will start to get brighter and gradients will become everyone’s friend again but in a more subtle way.

Do you live by any motto or philosophy?

”Believe it or not I can actually draw!” Jean-Michel Basquiat This is an absolute mantra of mine and one that I remind myself of all the time.

What would your best piece of advice be for someone beginning his or her planning journey?

Patience…patience…patience. Clients don’t always work to your schedule, so be prepared to be left hanging around sometimes. Also be prepared to be flexible and open to other opportunities. A framing shop/gallery that I’ve got a number of my prints in have offered to frame some of my work in exchange for some social media activities that they might be interested in me helping with. So it’s not always about money but about supporting in other ways.

What's your favourite season, why?

Spring into summer…just love warm days with a very gentle breeze. You can feel people becoming happier again.

P.S and just for reference, what's your favourite word in the English language?

Daddy...hearing my son call me is the best…unless it’s whilst he’s having a tantrum!
