More than any other colour, red is loaded for action”- Robert Genn
Red is THE colour of the season, unusually bold for these autumn months when we mostly reach for the more comforting browns and oranges! It seems an intimidating colour to incorporate into a party, without making the decor seem like a massacre!
So here are 6 subtle ways to thread in the color of the moment!
1. The Cerise Invitation
Beautiful red invitations are unusual, eye-catching and certainly original. It will also be a hint to how trendy this party is about to be!
2. The Red Carpet
Start as you mean to go on and invite your guests into the venue by way of a red carpet. Nothing makes you feel more “I must be at the right place at the right time!”! And no, it doesn’t have to be a celebrity themed event!!
3. Crimson Flowers
It’s an obvious one but it cant be beaten for that sexy feeling of sheer luxe. When it comes to flowers, don’t bother diluting the effect, the “redder”, the better. And the reds certainly don’t have to break the bank either, stray further than roses… think simple anemones, tulips and breath-taking amaryllis.
4. The Scarlet Cocktail
Don’t sell yourself short, don’t head straight for the “has-been” Cosmopolitan, its far too predictable. In fact the choices are endless, from a shot of tomato gazpacho at the reception to red slushees for kids! For the more discerning palette, go for the chic, champagne based Rossini or the more cheeky red apple martini cocktail, and certainly don’t forget the tempting garnishes!
The dessert is by far the easiest way to incorporate a whole spectrum of red hues, and we’re not just talking cake decor or the passé (red) sweets table!
Include cherry macaroons and the classic red-velvet cake, but by far the best pop of red will come from a selection of fresh berries – the trick is in the presentation, so that it doesn’t look like ‘just’ boring old fruit!
6. Cardinal-Red Fashion
Of course to highlight the color choices of your event, why not dress the part? Red dresses were all over the catwalks this season, even wedding gowns. And lets not forget that men might like a slash of red too – doesn’t have to be an entire suit but maybe a blazer or a pochette. A little twist, a little trend, a big difference!
So lets colour the town red and be steeply en vogue simultaneously – it doesn’t get better than that! Or brighter!
