The thought of wearing lightweight Spring fashions is the furthest thing from our minds as we recover from frozen weather-shock, London Fashion Weekend is around the corner (25-28th February) and we’re thinking about what looks we’ll embrace when we finally do thaw out. The 1970’s looks we first encountered for Autumn will still feature prominently for Spring so expect to see flowing chiffon, floral prints, denim and even suede (Yes. Suede.).
Victorian looks including ruffles and high necks will be everywhere, signaling our acceptance of rules for the New Sexy- modest and covered up, leaving more to the imagination. Apropos ruffles, we saw lots of looks on the runway which were heavily influenced by traditional Spanish dressing. Full skirts, ponchos, lots of red, a little off the shoulder and a whole lot of ruffles. Shops will be stocking pieces made of netting and it will be up to all of us to interpret how best to wear them given their lack of coverage- with vests and leggings underneath, denim jackets or even perhaps some strategically placed scarves.
Don’t let the runways dictate your look, rather borrow those elements you like and incorporate them into your own look. Partner brand Leanne Claxton, and a LFW 2016 exhibtior is the ultimate example of putting a personal spin on current trends. Her painted silk scarves are literally wearable art and and offer endless possibilities to help interpret Spring’s many trends as you see fit. Her scarves echo the flow, flowers and fullness of the season.
